Early the next morning,Ruth Rose poked her head into Dink`s tent.
-이른 다음 날 아침,딩크의 텐트에 루스 로즈의 머리가 불쑥 나타났다.
"Wake up!you guys!"
-"일어나!얘들아!"
Dink shot up out of a sound sleep.
-딩크는 그 소리를 듣고 일어났다.
"Did Tiger come back?"he asked,peering sleepily at Ruth Rose.
-"타이거가 돌아왔니?"그는 물었고,루스 로즈는 졸린 듯 뚫어지게 쳐다보았다.
"No,she didn`t.I`m going to the police station and I want you guys to come with me."
-"아니,그녀는 오지 않았어.난 경찰서에 갈 것이고,날 도와줄 사람이 필요해."

- Josh rolled over in his sleeping bag.
-조시는 침낭 안에서 돌아보았다.
"To report a missing cat?"
-"고양이를 잃어버렸다고 알려주는거야?"
"No,to report a missing cat and a missing canary,"Ruth Rose said.
-"아니,고양이하고 카나리아 새를 잃어버렸다고 알려주는 거야,"루스 로즈는 말했다.
Then she ducked back out of the tent.
-그리고 그녀는 텐트에서 나왔다.
Dink and Josh looked at each other,then crawled out after her.
-딩크와 조시는 서로 빤히 쳐다보고 있었고,그 무렵 그녀는 기어다니면서 주변을 둘러 보고 있었다.
Ruth Rose was pacing back and forth across the lawn.
-루스 로즈는 갑자기 들판을 가로질러 돌아왔다.

- "Guys,it`s just too weird,"she said.
-"얘들아,이거 너무 이상해,"그녀는 말했다.
"Two animals disappeared from the same street on the same day!"Ruth Rose stopped pacing and looked at them.
-"두 동물들이 같은 날 같은 장소에서 사라졌어!"루스 로즈는 둘러 보는 것을 그만두고 그들을 보았다.
"I don`t think Mozart and Tiger wandered off,I think they were stolen.I`m taking Nate home,and then you guys are coming with me to talk to Officer Fallon,"
-"난 모차르트랑 타이거가 사라진게 아니라,그들을 누군가가 훔쳤다고 생각해.난 내이트와 집에 갈테니까 네들은 펄론 경찰관님께 말하고 나한테와."
Ruth Rose woke up Nate,took his hand,and marched toward her house.
-루스 로즈는 내이트를 깨우고,그의 손을 잡은 후,그녀의 집을 향해 걸어갔다.
Dink and Josh just looked at each other and shrugged.
-딩크와 조시는 서로를 쳐다본 후 어깨를 으쓱했다.
Then they walked into Dink`s house.

- Josh poured two bowls of cereal while Dink ran up to his room to change.

Loretta,his guinea pig,squeaked a hello to Dink from her cage.

Josh was slurping up his Weet Treets when Dink came back down.

"I`ve been thinking,"Josh said.

- "Woulden`t Tiger eat Mozart if someone kidnapped them both?"

Dink shrugged.

"I don`t know.I`m not even sure that Tiger and Mozart were kidnapped,"he said between bites.
-"난 모르겠어.난 타이거와 모차르트가 유괴 되었는지를 확신하지 못하겠어,"그는 남의 일처럼 말했다.
"But Ruth Rose is our friend,so let`s go to the police station with her."
-"하지만 루스 로즈는 우리의 친구야,그녀와 함께 경찰서에 가보자."

- Ruth Rose walked in wearing blue shorts and a red shirt.
-루스 로즈는 파란색 반바지와 빨간색 셔츠를 입고 걸어오고 있었다.
"You guys ready to go?"she asked.
-"네들 어디 가려고 그러니?"그녀가 물었다.
Dink stared.
-딩크는 빤히 쳐다 보았다.
He`d never seen Ruth Rose wear two different colors at the same time.
-그는 지금까지 루스 로즈가 다른 두 가지 색상의 옷을 입은 것을 본 적이 없었기 때문이다.
He gave Josh a look,but Josh was busy reading the back of the cereal box and didn`t notice.
-그는 조시에게 시선을 줬지만,조시는 시리얼 상자의 뒤에 적혀있는 설명을 읽기에 정신이 팔려 있었다.

- "Yup,we`re ready,"Dink said,putting the bowls and glasses in the sink.

They found Officer Fallon at his desk.
-그들은 펄론 경찰관의 책상을 찾아 다녔다.
He was typing at his computer,chewing gum,and sipping tea all at the same time.
-그는 독특하게 컴퓨터를 하며,츄잉 껌을 씹고,차를 마셨다.
"Well,hi,gang,"he said,smiling at the kids.
-"어머,안녕,얘들아,"그는 말하며,아이들에게 미소를 지었다.
"Going to the circus this weekend?How about some free passes?"
-"네들 이번주 주말에 서커스 보러가지 않을래?무료 입장권 이라고하네?"

Officer Fallon handed Josh three tickets.
-펄론 경찰관은 조시에게 티겟 세장을 주었다.
"Go again,on the Green Lawn Police!"
-"다시 가봐,여기는 푸른 잔디 경찰서야!"
"Officer Fallon,I have a problem,"Ruth Rose said,
-"펄론 경찰관님,문제가 있어요,"루스 로즈는 말했다.
He pointed at some chairs.
-그는 의자를 가리켰다.
"Have a seat.I`m all ears."
-"앉아라.내가 모든 얘길 들어줄테니."
"It`s my cat,Tiger.She`s been gone for a whole day and night,"Ruth Rose said.
-"저의 고양이인 타이거가요.그녀가 완전히 사라졌어요,"루스 로즈가 말했다.

Dink had never seen Ruth Rose look or sound so serious.
-딩크는 루스 로즈의 얼굴과 목소리를 듣고 절대 농담이 아니라고 느꼈다.
Officer Fallon wrote something on a sheet of paper.
-펄론 경찰관은 종이에 무언가를 적었다.
"I think someone in Green Lawn is stealing pets,"Ruth Rose went on.
-"난 푸른 잔디의 누군가가 애완동물들을 훔쳤다고 생각해,"루스 로즈는 걸어다니며 말했다.

"Last night,Dr.Pardue called.His kids` rabbit was missing from its cage.Later,Mrs.Gwynn called.It seems her parrot disappeared off her back porch."
-"마지막 날 밤,팔듀 의사가 전화를 했어.그의 토끼가 집에서 사라졌다고 말이야.그 후,쥔 여사에게도 전화가 왔었어.그녀의 앵무새가 그녀가 현관으로 간 사이 사라졌다고 했어."

-"잠깐의 휴일동안 너의 그 고양이를 빼앗을 수 있지,루스 로즈?난 어떤 방랑자가 그랬을 것 같아."
"Well,Tiger isn`t,"Ruth Rose answered firmly.

The kids left the police station and walked toward Main Street.

"Sounds like you might be right,Ruth Rose,"Dink said.

-"사람들이 늘 그녀에게 잃어버린 동물들을 가져가니까 말이야.어쩌면 누군가가 타이거를 찾아서 그녀를 애완동물 용품점으로 데려갔을 수도 있어."
Ruth Rose rewarded Josh with a huge smile.
-루스 로즈는 조시에게 활짝 웃는 것으로 보답했다.
"Great idea,Josh!"
-"좋은 생각이야,조시!"
They passed Howard`s Barbershop.
-그들은 하워드 이발소를 지나갔다.

Howard shook his head.

At the Furry Feet pet shop,Mrs.Wong told Ruth Rose the same thing.
-솜털로 된 발들이 있는 애결 용품 전문점의,웡 여사도 루스 로즈에게 같을 말을 했다.

Ruth Rose dialed,spoke quietly to her mother,then hung up.

The kids left the pet shop and headed up Main Street.
-아이들은 애완 동물 용품점을 나와서 번화가 쪽으로 갔다.
They walked slowly,thinking about what to do.
-그들은 사건에 대해 생각하며 천천히 걸었다.
"I`ve read about scientists stealing animals to use in experiments,"Josh said.
-"난 과학자가 동물을 몰래 훔치는 실험을 했다는 것에 대해서 읽었었어,"조시가 말했다.
"That`s awful!"Dink said.
-"그것 참 굉장하구나!"딩크가 말했다.
"I don`t want Tiger used in some experiment!"said Ruth Rose.
-"난 타이거가 실험에 사용되었다고 절대 믿고 싶지 않아!"루스 로즈가 말했다.
