The second spirit
Scrooge woke up, back in bed, as a clock struck one.
스크루지는 침대위에서 깨어났어요. 시계는 한시종을 쳤어요.
He sat up nervously but nothing happened.
그는 신경질적으로 일어났지만 아무일도 일어나지 않았어요.
He flung back his curtains.
그는 그의 커튼을 다시 젖혀보았어요.
No one was there.
아무것도 없었어요.
Finally, Scrooge got up and went into the next room.

"Here's father!" cried the two youngest,
as Bob came in, carrying his invalid son.

Soon, everyone was enjoying the feast.
곧, 모든사람이 파티를 즐겼어요.
it was a small meal for such a large family but
no one would have dreamed of saying so.

"I wish he was here.

- By now, it was getting dark.

but everywhere Scrooge saw people full of christmas spirit.

In the midst of the gloom, Scrooge heard a hearty laugh.
어둑어둑한 가운데로 갔어요. 스크루지는 기운찬 웃음소리를 들었어요.
It was his nephew Fred.
그것은 그의 조카 프레드였어요.

Scrooge saw a hooded phantom coming closer.
마지막 종소리는 사라져서 멀어졌어요.
스크루지는 후드를 쓴 유령이 오는것을 보았어요.

The last spirit
The phantom floated silently up to Scrooge.
유령은 조용히 스크루지의 높이까지 떠올랐어요.
"Are you the Ghost of Christmas Yet To Come?" he asked.
"당신 유령은 크리스마스 전에 다시올것인가요?" 그가 물었어요.
The phantom said nothing, but pointed its ghostly hand.
유령은 아무말도 하지않았지만 유령의 손으로 가르켰어요.
"Ghost of the future," cried Scrooge,
"I fear you more than any other, but I shall go with you."
"유령은 미래에서 왔다." 스크루지가 외쳤어요.
"나는 당신이 무서워요. 다른 많은 사람들도 그러겠죠.
하지만 나는 당신과 함께가게되겠죠.

- Staying silent, the ghost glided off.

They left the crowds and went to a part of town Scrooge had never visited.

As they entered a junk store, three people came in with things to sell.
그들은 고물가게로 들어갔어요. 3명의 사람들이 물건을 팔려고 들어갔어요.

- Scrooge was horrified.
스크루지는 소름이 끼쳤어요.
These things had been stolen from a dead man's house.

"This poor man might be me."
"저사람들은 나에게 한걸거야."
As he spoke, the scene changed.
그가 말하고나서 장면이 바뀌었어요.
Now, they were in a bedroom.
지금 그들은 침실안에 있어요.
A dead man lay on the bed, alone but for a cat and some rats.
죽은 남자는 침대위에 누워있고 외로운 고양이 한마리와 몇몇의 쥐들도 있었어요.
The phantom pointed to the man's face, but Scrooge couldn't look.
유령은 남자의 얼굴을 가리켰어요. 하지만 스크루지는 그것을 볼수없었어요.
"Is no one moved by this man's death?" he begged.
"아무도 시체를 이동시키지 않는건가?" 그가 청했어요.

- The phantom spread out his dark robe for a second.

When he drew it back, Scrooge saw a room where a man and wife were talking.

"We owe him so much money," the woman said.

An air of sadness hung over them.
공중은 슬픔으로 가득하고 그들위에 걸렸어요.

- As Scrooge watched them,
he had the feeling that the phantom was about to leave.

"그전에 너는 나에게 누가 침대위에 누워있는지 말해줄수있어?" 그가부탁했어요.
The phantom said nothing but took Scrooge to a churchyard.
유령은 아무것도 말하지않았지만 그를 묘지로 데려갔어요.
"He lies here?" said Scrooge.
"그는 여기에 누워있어요?" 스크루지가 말했어요.
Silently, the ghost pointed to a gravestone.
조용히 유령은 비석을 가르켰어요.
"Answer me one question, then," asked Scrooge.
"나에게 대답을 줘" 스크루지가 물었어요.
"Have I seen what will happen or what might happen?"
"나한테 무슨일이 일어날지 보여줄래 아니면 보일수 있도록 해줄래?"
Still the ghost remained silent.
유령은 정지한 상태로 조용히 남아있었어요.
trembling all over,
Scrooge crept up to the gravestone and read the name upon it.
전율했어요. 스크루지는 비석앞으로 기어가 그곳의 이름을 읽었어요.

- With a terrible cry, Scrooge grabbed the ghost's robe.
무서운 비명과 함께 스크루지가 유령의 옷을 움켜잡았어요.

But the phantom simply pointed to Scrooge and back to the grave.
하지만 유령은 단지 스크루지와 뒤의 무덤을 가리키고 있었어요.
"I'm not the man I was," Scrooge cried.
"나는 저사람이 아니야 나는" 스크루지가 소리쳤어요.
"Let me change."
"나를 바꿔줘."
Scrooge closed his eyes to pray.
스크루지는 그의 눈을 감고 기도를 했어요.
When he opened them again, the phantom had become his bedpost.
그가 다시눈을 떻을때 유령은 그의 침대다리가 되었어요.
chapter 6
Merry Christmas!
He was back in his own bed. "Ha!" he laughed.
그는 뒤의 그의 침대에 누웠어요. "하!" 그가 웃었어요.
"I'm as light as a feather, as merry as a school boy. Thank you,Marley!
From now on, i'll keep Christmas in my heart all year round."
"나는 가벼운 깃털이 되었다가. 명랑한 학생이 되었었어.고마워 말리!
지금 부터 나는 지금이 마음을 평생 간직할거야."
"I don't know what day it is.
I don't know what month it is!
I don't care," he babbled.
나는 지금 몇일인지 모르겠고 몇달인지도 모르겠어! 나는 걱정이 없어."
그가 더듬거리며 말했어요.
Just then, the church bells rang out.
그때 교회종소리가 밖으로 들려왔어요.
Scrooge raced to his window.
스크루지는 그의 창문으로 달려나갔어요.
The spirits had done all their work in one night
영혼들과의 모든일은 한밤만에 끝났어요.

- Scrooge chuckled and sent the boy off
to buy the butcher's prize turkey.
스크루지는 낄낄웃고 소년을 고깃집주인의 훌륭한 칠면조를 사기위해 보냈어요.

he said to himself and rubbed his hands with glee.
"그건 보브한테 보낼거야." 그는 스스로 말하고 손을비비며 즐거워했어요.
"It's twice the size of Tiny Tim!"
"티니팀의 두배는 되게 큰걸!"
When the boy returned with the turkey, Scrooge gasped.
소년이 칠면조를 가지고 돌아왔어요. 스크루지는 숨이찼어요.
The bird was huge.
새는 거대했어요.
"Will you deliver it for me?" he asked, chuckling some more.
"나를 위해 배달해주겠니?" 그가물었어요. 그가 더 낄낄 웃었어요.
"You'll need a cab."
"마차가 필요할거야."
And he paid the boy, found a cab and went back inside, still chuckling.
그리고 소년에게 돈을 지불했어요.
마차를 찾고 뒤 안쪽에서 가만히 낄낄 웃었어요.
He chuckled until the tears rolled down his cheeks.
그는 그의 뺨에 눈물이 흐를때까지 낄낄웃었어요.
At last, he was dressed in his best and outside.
그리고 마지막에 그가 그의 최고의 정장을 입고 밖으로 나왔어요.
He looked so cheerful that several people said,
"Morning sir! Merry Christmas!"
그는 기분좋게 보였고 그걸본 몇몇의 사람들은 이렇게 말했어요.
"안녕하세요! 메리 크리스마스!
Scrooge thought those the most beautiful words he had ever heard.
스크루지는 그들은 대부분 아름다운 말들을 그에게 들려준다고 생각했어요.
He hadn't gone far when he met the men who had been
collecting for the poor the day before.
그는 성공하지못한 남자와 만났어요.
그가 누구냐면 가난한 사람들을 위해 하루가 지나기전에 수금하는 사람들이에요.
"Merry christmas!" he cried.
"메리 크리스마스!" 그가 외쳤어요.
The two men looked shocked. Was this Scrooge?

Scrooge felt at home in five minutes.

It was a wonderful party.
그것은 환상적인 파티였어요.
But Scrooge was at work early next day.
하지만 스크루지는 내일 일찍 일해야해요.
He wanted to catch Bob Cratchit coming in late.
그는 보브가 늦게 오길 바랬어요.
And he did.
그리고 그는
Bob was nearly twenty minutes late.
보브는 12분가까이 늦었어요.
Scrooge pretended to be furious.
스크루지는 체해서 화가났어요.
"I'm not going to stand for it any longer! Step into my office."
