- So the Little bird took his eye and gave i to the little girl.
작은 새가 그의 눈을 가지고 작은 여자아이에게 갔다.
She went running home with the beautiful stone.
그녀는 아름다운 돌을 들고 집으로 갔다.
The Swallow went bak to the Happy Prince and said, "Now you are blind."
제비는 다시 행복한 왕자에게로 돌아가서 말했다."이제 당신은 보이지 않아요"
"I will stay with you forever."
"나는 왕자님 곁에 영원히 있을 거에요."
"No, you must go to Egypt before the winter," said the Prince.
"아니, 너는 겨울이 오기 전에 이집트로 가야 해."왕자가 말했다.
"No, I will stay with you."
"아니요, 저는 왕자님 곁에 있을 거에요."
The Swallow sat at his feet and fell asleep.
제비는 왕자의 발에서 잠들었다.
The Happy Prince was blind.
행복한 왕자는 보이지 않았다.
The Swallow sat on his shoulder and tld him many stories.
제비는 그의 어께에 앉아 많은 이야기를 해 주었다.
He told him about so many magical places.
그는 그의 관한 많은 마법스러운 장소를 이야기 해주었다.
He described the Nile River, the Sphinx, and the dry deserts of Africa.
그는 나일강과, 스핑크스, 아프리카의 건조한 사막에 대해 묘사했다.
He told him about the merchants and about many animals like camels and elephants.
그는 상인과 낙타와 코끼리 같은 많은 동물에 대해서도 이야기 했다.
The Happy Prince greatly enjoyed his stories.
행복한 왕자는 제비의 이야기를 즐거워 했다.

- "Everything you have told me is bery intereting."
"네가 해주는 이야기들은 재밌어."
"But people's suffering is the most interesting thing of all."

"I want to knos everyting that is happening in this city."
"나는 이 도시에서 일어나는 모든 일들을 알고 싶어."
"Please fly over the city, and tell me what you see."
"제발 도시를 날고, 네가 본 일들을 나에게 들려줘."
The Swllow did as the Prince asked.
제비는 왕자가 물은 만큼 했다.
He flew through the sky.
그는 하늘을 날았다.
Below him, he saw wealthy people living comfortably in their homes.
그가 있는 곳 아래에서, 넉넉한 형편에 사람들이 그들의 집에서 편하게 살고 있었다.
He saw people starving in damp alleys.
그는 굶주린 사람들이 축축한 뒷골목에 있는 것을 보았다.
Under one bridge, he saw two boy cuddle together.
다리 아래에서, 그는 남자아이 두명이 꼭 끌어 안고 있는 것을 보았다.
They were trying to stay warm.
그들은 따뜻하게 하려고 했다.
The watchman came and yelled at them.
경비원이 가서 그들에게 소리쳤다.
"Get out of here!"

They walked out into the freezing rain.
그들이 차가운 비가 내리고 있는 다리 밖으로 갔다.
The Swallow told the Happy Prince everyting.

- "Please take my gold."
"내 금을 가져가 줘."
"Please give it to the cold and hungry people,"
"춥고 배고픈 사람들에게 금을 가져다 줘,"

The Swallow gave every piece of gold from the statue to the poor.
제비는 자른 금조각을 가난한 사람들에게 나누어 주었다.
They also had big smiles upon their faces.
그들의 얼굴에는 항상 웃음이 있었다.
This made the Happy Prince again.
그것은 행복한 왕자가 다시 만들었다.
Life for the Swallow was becoming more difficult.
제비의 삶에서 힘든 일이 더 남았다.
Heavy snow fell on the city.
많은 눈이 도시에 내린다.
But he still did not leave the Prince.
하지만 그는 정지한 채 왕자의 곁을 떠나지 않았다.
He found crumbs of bread outside a bakery.
그는 빵집 주변에서 빵조각을 찾았다.
He flapped his wings to warm his body.
그는 그의 날개를 펄럭 거려서 그의 몸을 따뜻하게 했다.
In time, the little Swallow thought, "I am going to die here."

- "You have stayed too long in this city."

"But I want you to kiss my lips and not my hand because I love you,"

the Happy Prince said.
행복한 왕자가 말했다.
The Swallow replied,"Dear Prince, I am going to the House of Death, not Egypt."
제비가 대답했다."왕자님께, 저는 이집트가 아니라 죽음으로 가요."
"Death is the brother of sleep, isn't it?"
"죽음은 잠의 형제에요. 그렇지 않아요?"
The little bird kissed the Prince's lips.
작은 새는 왕자의 입술에 입을 맞추었다.
He then fell dead at his feet.
그리고 그는 왕자의 발에서 죽었다.
At the same time the Swallow died, there was a loud"Crack."
제비가 죽은 시간이랑 같은 시간에 "딱"하고 큰 소리가 났다.
It was the heart of the Prince.
그 소리는 왕자의 심장에서 난 소리였다.
It had broken in two.
부서졌다.
The Mayor fo the city was inspecting the city square the next morning.
그 다음날 아침 시장이 도시의 광장을 검사하였다.
All of the town councilors were there, too.
마을에 높은 사람들도 모두 그곳에 있었다.
They looked up at the statue and were shocked.
그들은 동상을 보고 충격을 받았다.
"Look at the Prince!"
"왕자를 봐요!"
"He looks absolutely awful!"
"그의 두려운 모습을 봐요!"

- the Mayor exclaimed.
시장이 외쳤다.
The councilors all quickly said together, "Yes, he looks absolutely awful."
그곳에 간 높은 사람들이 다같이 빠르게 말했다."맞아요. 그는 매우 무서워요."
The councilors always agreed with the Mayor.
의원은 항상 시장의 말에 동의를 했다.
"The ruby from his sword is gone."
"그의 칼에 있던 루비가 없어졌어요."
"The sapphires from his eyes are gone."
"그의 눈에 있던 보석들도 없어졌어요."
"All of his gold is gone."
"그의 모든 금도 없어졌어요."
said the Mayor.
시장이 말했다.
"He looks like a beggar. And look at this! A dead bird!"
"이제 쓰레기 에요. 그리고 이걸 좀 보세요! 죽은 새에요!"
"Birds must not be allowed to die here."
"새들은 여기서 죽는 것을 허락하지 않아요."
"We must do something about that," he said.
"우리는 무언가에 대해 해야 되요." 그가 말했다.
Soon, after, the statue of the Happy Prince removed from the square.
잠시 후, 행복한 왕자의 조각상은 광장에서 다시 옮겨졌다.
The Art Professor from the local university said, "He has lost his use because he has lost his beauty!"
대학의 미술 교수가 말했다. "그는 그의 용도를 잃었다. 그는 아름다움을 잃어버렸다."
The statue was taken away to be melted.
조각상은 서서히 사라졌다.
It was being melted at the foundry.
서서히 사라지고 있는 조각상에서 무언가를 찾았다.

- The worker discovered a very strange thing.
일하는 사람은 이상한 무언가를 찾았다.
"This is so unusual!" one of the workers exclaimed.
"이거 좀 이상해!" 일하는 사람 한명이 외쳤다.
"The lead of the statue's heart was cracked."
"동상에 심장에 금이 가 있어."
"But it will not melt! Let's just throw it away."
"하지만 이것은 녹고 있지 않아! 멀리 던지자."
The workers threw the Happy Prince's broken lead heart into the garbage.
일하는 사람들은 행복한 왕자의 부서진 심장을 쓰레기 사이에 넣었다.
It lay next to the poor dead Swallow.
그것은 가엾은 죽은 제비 옆에 누였다.
Far above in heaven, God commanded one of his Angels, "Bring me the two most valuable things from the city."
먼 하늘에 신이 그의 천사 한명에게 명령했다. "도시에서 가장 중요한 것들을 내게 가져오렴."
The angel went to the city.
천사는 도시로 갔다.
He found the broken heart and the little Swallow.
그는 부러진 심장과 작은 제비를 찾았다.
God was very pleased with the Angel.
신은 천사와 함께 기뻐했다.
"You truly have chosen the most valuable things in the city."
"너는 정말로 도시에서 가장 귀중한 것을 가져왔구나."
"This little will sing forever in Paradise."
"이 작은 새는 천국에서 영원히 기쁠 것이다."
"The Happy Prince will live forevery city of gold."
"행복한 왕자는 나의 도시에서 영원히 살 것이다."

- A young man was very upset and cried,"She said that she would dance with me if I brought her red roses."
어린 남자가 엉망이 된채로 울고 있었다. "그녀가 말하길 내가 그녀와 춤을 추려면 그녀의 빨간 장미를 가지고 가야해."
"But there are no red rdses in my garden!"
"하지만 나의 정원엔 빨간 장미가 없는걸!"
He sat in his garden, feelling very sad.
그는 그의 정원에 앉아있었고, 슬펐다.
Not far away, a Nightingale looked at him.
멀지 않은 거리에서, 나이팅게일이 그를 보았다.
She was sitting in her nest.
그녀는 그녀의 보금자리에 앉아있었다.
It was in a lovely, old oak tree.

The Nightingale felt sorry for the man.
나이팅게일은 남자에게 미안했다.
"Here is man who truly loves," she thought.
"여기 이 남자의 참된 사랑은 누구일까." 그녀가 생각했다.

"But his face is rull of sorrow and pain."

The Nightingale then heard the man say,
그리고 나이팅게일은 남자가 하는 소리를 들었다.
"My love will be at the Prince's ball tomorrow."
"나의 사랑은 내일 열리는 왕자의 무도회에 있어."
"If I bring her a red rose, she will be mine."
"내가 장미를 가져가게 된다면, 그녀는 나의 것일 거야."
"I will dance with her all through the night."
"나는 그녀와 함께 밤동안 춤을 추겠지."
"But with no rose, she will not even see me."
"하지만 장미가 없으면, 그녀는 날 보지 않을 거야."
"I will have to watch her dance with others."
"나는 그녀가 다른 사람과 추는 춤을 지켜보게 될 거야."

But he feel that love.
하지만 그는 이것을 사랑이라고 느껴.
It is joy to me, but it give him great pain.
이것은 날 기쁘게 해줘, 하지만 이건 그에게 엄청난 아픔이야.
Love is more valuable than any precious jewel.
사랑은 값비싼 것보다 훨씬 귀중한 보석이야.
It cannot be bought with money."
돈주고도 못사는 거지."
"My lovely lady will dance gracefully to the harp and the violin," the man said.
"나의 사랑스러운 여성분은 하프와 바이올린 소리에 맞추어 우아하게 춤을 추겠지." 남자가 말했다.
"She will be surrounded by so many noblemen."
"그녀는 수많은 귀족들에게 둘러싸일 거야."
"They will all wish to dance with her."
"그들은 모두 그녀와 춤을 추는 것을 바랄 거야."

The Nightingale replied in a deep voice, "He is weeping for a red rose."

"That is such nonsense!" laughed the little lizard.

- He was famous for being a pessimist.

However, the Nightingale understood such painful matters of the heart.
나이팅게일은 마음을 아프개 하는 것을 알았다.
She sat in her tree and thought about the mystery of love.
그녀는 그녀의 나무에 앉아서 신비한 사랑에 대해서 생각했다.
After a few minutes of deep thought, the nightingale flew into the air.
몇분 동안 깊은 생각을 한 뒤에 나이팅게일은 날아올랐다.
she gracefully glided over the garden.
그녀는 우아하게 미끄러지듯 정원으로 날아갔다.
She landed somewhere in the middle.
그녀는 어딘가 한가운데에 내려갔다.
There, a wonderful rose tree stood.
그곳에서 훌륭한 장미 나무가 서 있었다.
She said to the tree, "I will sing the most beautiful song for you if you give me a red rose."
그녀가 나무에게 말했다."내가 당신에게 가장 아름다운 노래를 불러 줄 테니 저에게 빨간 장미 한 송이를 주세요."
The tree replied,"I only have white roses."
나무가 대답했다."저에게는 하얀 장미 밖에 없어요."
They are whiter than the coldest snow.
그 꽃들은 차가운 눈보다 하옛다.
