- The woman raised her arms up to tke sky.
그 여자는 그녀의 팔을 하늘에 높이 올렸다.
She smiled down at the field and spoke in a strong, encouraging voice:
그녀는 밭을 보며 미소를 지었고, 강하고 희망적인 목소리로 말했다:
"Grow, crops, GROW!"
"밭아, 커져라, 커져라!"
All at once, something astonishing happened.
한번에, 무언가 놀라운 일이 일어났다.
Plants began to sprout from the ground.
식믈들이 땅에서 부터 자라나기 시작했다.
In the blink of an eye, they grew larger and larger.
순식간에, 그들은 커지고 더 커졌다.
And in the time it takes to count to ten, they were fully grown!
그리고 10초를 세기도 전에 그들은 모두 커졌다.
Corn, beans, squash, cucumbers, eggplant, and tomatoes covered the field like a thick carpet.
옥수수, 콩, 호박, 오이, 가지, 그리고 토마토가 두꺼운 카펫처럼 밭에 깔렸다.
As the woman was gathering some of the food in a basket, Coyote was thinking furiously.
여자가 바구니에 음식을 담을 때, 코요테는 맹렬하게 생각했다.
How could he trick this woman into giving him some?
어떻게 그녀가 그에게 음식을 주도록 꾈 수 있을까?
Better yet, how could he trick her into teaching him this amazing trick?

"I'll make her feel sorry for me," he said to himself.

"I already look thin, so I'll pretend I am lame and can't hunt."

So Coyote held up his front paw, as if it were broken, and limped across the field toward the woman.

- "Excuse me, dear lady," Coyote called softly.

"Could you possibly spare some food for a hunter who cannot hunt for hiimself?"
"스스로 사냥을 못하는 사냥꾼에게 음식을 나누어 줄 수 있나요?"
The woman, who had a very kind face, looked at Coyote limping towards her.
매우 친절한 얼굴을 한 여자가 그녀앞에 있는 코요테를 보았다.
"Why, of course.
"그럼, 물론이지."
Take whatever you need," she said, waving her hand at her field.
필요한 뭐든지 말이야," 그녀는 말했다, 그녀의 경작지에 손을 흔들며.
Coyote quickly gobbled up some food but was careful not to eat too much.
코요테는 빠르게 약간의 음식을 집었다, 너무많이는 아니고 조심스럽게.
He didn't want the woman to think he was greedy - although, of course, he really was.

"Are you sure you don't want more?" the woman asked.

- Coyote looked at the woman hopefully and said,

"If you could only teach me that wonderful trick to grow crops, that would be very helpful."

"Oh, but it's not a trick.

It is a gift the Sky God gave to me."

Then she explained how one day, a beautiful pink bird with a broken wing had fallen out of the sky.

The woman had used her healing arts to mend its wing.
그 여자는 그녀의 치유능력으로 날개를 낫게 해 주었다.
This bird, it turned out, was the favorite pet of the Sky God.
그 새가 돌아갔고, 그 새는 하늘 신이 가장 좋아하던 새 였다.
"As thanks for my help, the Sky God gave me this gift.
"저를 도와준 것에 감사하는 의미로, 하늘 신 께서 이 선물을 주셨습니다.
I'm happy to show you how it works," said the woman,

"but you must be careful of the gift will be taken from you.

You can grow food for yourself, and you can share your food with others.

Coyote grunted and nodded his head.

And in the time it takes to read this sentence, the woman had shared her gift with Coyote.

- Coyote carefully limped away until he was out of sight of the woman.
코요테는 그녀가 보이지 않을 때까지 조심스럽게 절름거리며 떠나갔다.
Then he dashed the rest of the way back to his home.
그리고 나서 그는 그의 집까지 전속력으로 달렸다.
He was eager to try out his new power.

He had a field behind his house, although he had never bothered to grow anything there.

Now he walked into the middle of this field, rose up, raised his front legs, and hollered,

Afraid all that food might wanish at any moment, Coyote began eating.

- Once again, Coyote walked into the middle of his field, rose up, raised his front legs, and hollered,

"Grow, crops, grow!"
"자라나라, 농작물아, 자라나라!"
WHOOSH! His field was once agian filled with crops.

In fact, he realized, there were actually more crops than there were the first time because his field had grown a bit bigger.
사실, 그는 전보다 더 많은 농작물이 있다는 것을 깨달았다 그의 밭이 조금 더 커졌기 때문이다.
Coyote had more than he could possibly eat, but he wasn't about to share his wealth with others.

Oh, no.

It was not in his nature to be generous.

- Nothing happened.

Coyote scowled in annoyance and tried again.

He yelled out in anger and went to find the woman with the gift.

When he finally found her, Coyote explanined what had happend.
그가 마침내 그녀를 찾아냈을 때, 코요테는 어떻게 된 일인지 설명했다.
"You must give me the gift again," he demanded.

The woman shook her head sadly.

"I warned you to be careful.

You should have shared your extra food, but instead, you sold it foor profit.

You wasted your gift, and now it is gone forever."

Coyote trudged back home.

- Daklene and the Art Show (1)
- Dalene started talking the moment her father picked her up from school.
Dalene는 그녀의 아빠에게 자신을 학교로 데려다 달라고 이야기를 시작했다.
Today Mrs. Reynold had told the class that they were going to have an art show.
Reyond부인은 오늘 있을 미술 공연에 대해서 이야기를 했다.
Art was Darlene's favorite subject in school, and she dreamed that one day she would be a famous artist.
미술은 Darlene가 학교 과목 중 가장 좋아하는 과목이고, 그녀는 훗날 유명한 화가가 되기를 꿈꿨다.
"Well, Darlene," asked her father,
"음, Darlene," 그녀의 아빠는 물었다,
"what do you think you want to create for the art show?"
"너는 미술 공연에서 어떤 것을 만들고 싶니?"
"I have some ideas, but I'm not sure yet.

I'll let you know when I decide," replied Darlene.

The next day at school, the class was ready to erupt in excitement about the big art show.

In art class, Mrs Reynolds put markers, paints, clay, and brightly colored paper.

Some students wanted to paint pictures, while others wanted to work with clay.
