exam은 시험보다는 "검사"로하는게 좋을 것 같고
shot은 촬영이라는 뜻도 잇지만 이문장에서는" 주사"가 맞는것 같구나
즉"몇몇 동물들은 일년에 한번 간단한 검사와 주사 맞는 것만이 필요하다"
라고 이해하면 될듯.

"면도한 부분을 잘라냈다라고하면 털을 깎은 부분을 다 도려내서
뻥 뚫렸다고 생각 할 수 도 있으니까,
잘라냈다라고하는 것보다는 수술하기위해서 털을 깔끔하게
제거한다음 수술하기 위해서 그곳에 칼로 갈랐다는 뜻이겠지?
