- It was a holiday.
We had the day off from school.

That's why Mom brought us to her shop.
Mom has a shop that grooms pets.
She washes dogs and cats, gives them haircuts, and makes them smell really nice.
I like to help Mom at her shop when I go there.
There's just one problem.
My little brother likes to help, too.
If you ask me, Tommy just gets in the way.
But Mom never asks me what I think.
She thinks brothers and sisters should always do things together.

- So anyway,like it or not,I was at Mom's shop with Tommy that day.
Things started out nice and quiet.
Then lots of people started coming in at the same time.
Suddenly,the shop was full of cats and dogs!
"How am I going to deal with all these pets?" Mom cried anxiously.
"We can help, Mom," I said.
Then I looked at Tommy.
"Sure we can," he said.
I started to worry.
"Okay," Mom said.
"You and Tommy can take FiFi.
Mrs. LaBoom wants her to have a shampoo.
That shouldn't be hard."
I led FiFi to the sink.
Tommy helped me lift her in.
Then he turned on the water.
"Not so cold!"

- I warned Tommy in a cross voice.

I reached for the shampoo,but Tommy was one stop ahead of me.
He was putting lots of different ingredients into the sink.

"What's that?" I asked.
"Mom's hair gel," Tommy said with a laugh.
When we got FiFi out of the sink, she was all sticky.
FiFi was fluffy!
She looked like she had stuck her paw in a light socket.
"Quick," I told Tommy.
"Grab some of those ribbons."
Mrs. LaBoom came by at lunchtime to pick up FiFi.
Tommy led FiFi out on a leash.
"My,my," said Mrs. LaBoom.
"FiFi looks so...so... festive."
I smiled. "We thought we would do something special," I said.
"After all, it is a holiday."

Elena liked everything about her town.

Elena said,"Marisa,my parents are planning to move.
Everything in the new town will be different.

You can write your wish on a piece of paper.
We will tie your wish to the kite.
When we fly the kite, your wish will fall.

Elena and Marisa used sticks and catalog pages to make a kite.
"Write your wish on this piece of paper, Elena," said Marisa.
"I will use a knot to tie it to the kite."
"Shall I tell you what my wish is?"asked Elena.
"I have already guessed it!"said Marisa.
The next day, Elena and Marisa walked to the park.
They lifted the kite into the into the air.
The wind blew the kite higher and higher.
The kite string pulled heavily in Elena's hsnd.
Soon the girls saw the paper wish fall to the ground.
